Route Description for West Route Canal Trail

The West Route Canal Trail is a great little adventure for hikers experienced in light scrambling and route finding. This trail leads down a slot canyon where hikers will have to navigate frequent obstacles. Sturdy shoes with good grip are a must for this trail, as is lots of water and snacks. This trail is rarely visited, so it is a great place to spend the day on your own exploring the beauty of Zion National Park.

From the parking lot at the Many Pools Trailhead, walk down the road to the west to where the road bends sharply south. Make your way down into the wash on the south side of the road, and cross under the road through the culvert. Follow the wash into the canyon ahead. The West Route Canal Trail leads straight north for just over a mile to a point where the trail will become impassable.

Take your time, and enjoy clambering over obstacles and exploring this little canyon nook before turning back and following the same path back out.
