Itinerary for 8-Day Innsbruck to Lake Garda Cycling Tour

Day 1

Arrival in Innsbruck

Overnight Location - Hotel in Innsbruck | Distance - None | Meals - None

After arriving in Innsbruck, you will meet up for a welcome briefing and bike fitting. For the rest of the day, we recommend visiting Innsbruck’s famous old town with its city tower and its “Golden Roof”

Day 2

Cycle to Imst

Overnight Location - Hotel in Imst | Distance - 65 km | Meals - Breakfast

Today you will cycle the former towpath along the river Inn, which will take you around the base of the Martinswand (mountain face) and through little villages and market towns to Stams (baroque Cistercian convent). After, you will continue your tour via Haiming to Imst, the so-called “Merano of North Tyrol”.

Day 3

Traverse the Reschenpass to Reschensee

Overnight Location - Hotel in Malles | Distance - 50 km + Bus Transfer | Meals - Breakfast

Continuing along the river Inn, today’s stage of the tour will take you past the Zams monastery to Landeck. From there, a bus will take you to Nauders, where you will gain just under 100 metres in altitude while cycling uphill to the mountain pass called the 'Reschenpass'. From the pass, you will bike downhill to Lake Reschensee and continue on minor roads to Mals or to Burgeis at the foot of the castle Marienburg.

Day 4

View Historical Sites on the Way to Merano

Overnight Location - Hotel in Merano | Distance - 65 km | Meals - Breakfast

Your day will begin with a trip to Glurns, which is home to perfectly preserved medieval city walls. You will then cycle to the Montani ruins, through Schlanders, and down to Merano. On your way, you will come across some pretty castles (mountaineer Reinhold Messner’s castle Juval) and you will enjoy marvelous views of the impressive mountain massif Ortlermassiv and the mountain pass Stilfserjoch.

Day 5

Bike Past Vineyards and Orchards in South Tyrol

Overnight Location - Hotel in Auer | Distance - 55 km | Meals - Breakfast

Today’s stage will take you via Lana (Schnatterpeck Altar) and through numerous orchards and vineyards in the area of the South Tyrolean Wine Road. Here, you will make your way past many fortresses, castles, and ruins – such as Hocheppan – to reach Lake Caldaro. You will stay overnight in the cozy wine town, Auer.

Day 6

Cycle to Trento

Overnight Location - Hotel in Trento | Distance - 45 km | Meals - Breakfast

On the sixth day of your tour, you will cycle mostly along the river Adige. At times you will pass through orchards to Salurn, where the German speaking South Tyrol ends. The famous Trentino vineyards are located next to the dam ways, which lead you to Trento. This beautiful city is home to a lovely old town, a cathedral, and Buonconsiglio castle.

Day 7

Take in the Natural Beauty of Lake Garda

Overnight Location - Hotel in Riva | Distance - 50 km | Meals - Breakfast

Today, you will continue cycling on bike paths along the river Adige via the old Tyrolean border town of Rovereto to Mori. From there, the route leads westward to Lake Garda. In Mori you will taste the world famous pistachio ice-cream in the Gelateria Bologna. After a short climb onto Passo S. Giovanni (150 metres), you will head down to the lake to Riva.

Day 8

Departure

Overnight Location - None | Distance - None | Meals - Breakfast

After breakfast, catch a final glimpse of the beautiful Lake Garda before packing your things for an individual departure.
