Spend the first night in the understated Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and poetic inspiration to many. Then, get your heart pumping right off the bat as you ascend to the mountains and spend two nights in two charming villages. Finally, you’ll ride down into a new province with more pastoral scenes and end up in Villach, a lovely city close to several swimmable lakes.

This bike tour offers a blend of culture and adventure as you go from city to mountain to city once more. Along the way, expect to see some idyllic scenes from baroque architecture to flowing waterfalls once you reach the preserved natural areas. With your breakfasts included in your accommodation, you can always fuel up well for long days of pedalling. Lunch and dinner are up to you, but you’ll have no trouble finding a suitable restaurant serving local favourites. For those pressed for time but wishing to see a lot, this is your tour!

Day 1 Arrive in Salzburg

Your tour begins in Salzburg, Austria, a romantic town in the mountains and home to Mozart. If you arrive early enough, take some time to explore the Old Town before settling into your hotel for the night.

Day 2 Long Ride to St. Johann

Soon after you start riding today, the mountains will come into view. For the first part of the day, you’ll ride along the Salzach River, lending to a very tranquil morning ride. You’ll keep pedalling onto the Tauern bike path to Hallein village, a historic town with stunning lush mountains around it.

Take a refreshing stop at Golling waterfall, flowing 75 metres from top to bottom. Finish the day with a climb to St. Johann, a mountain town and popular ski resort, where you’ll stay for the night.

Day 3 Bike through Gastein Valley

Leaving the mountain town behind, you’ll ride through the peaceful Gastein Valley. Here’s where the quintessential Austrian Alp scenes appear. With high mountains surrounding you, ride along a river until you reach one of today’s highlights, the Gastein Waterfall.

This place has inspired countless artists, and you’ll see why. After this stop, you’ll ride to Böckstein and hop on a train to Mölltal/Mallnitz, hop out and ride down to your hotel.

Day 4 Cycle to Villach

After an early breakfast, set off for a long and beautiful ride south to Villach, the seventh-largest city in Austria. You’ll enter into a new province, Carinthia, which is famous for its beautiful lakes.

Ride along a river with mountains all around you, and soon the famous Porcia Renaissance castle appears on the horizon. Depending on when you arrive in Villach, ride to a nearby lake and swim before getting a well-deserved rest in your hotel.
