Itinerary for Camino del Norte from Ribadeo to Santiago
Arrive to Ribadeo
The river Eo acts as a natural border between Asturias and Galicia and Ribadeo is the main town on this border shore. Arrive here and check into your hotel to begin your Camino journey.
First Walk to Villamartín Grande
Today is your first day on the Camino del Norte! You’ll part ways with the coast this morning to head into the mountains today on a short but intense stage to Villamartin Grande.
Walk to Mondoñedo
The day begins with a descent to Gondán followed by a an uphill section to reach the church of San Xust o. From here, you’ll continue to trace the Batán river to Vilanova de Lourenzá. Following your arrival in Arroxo, you’ll enjoy gentle hills to Mondoñedo. The cathedral and old town of Mondoñedo have been declared a historical - artistic site – enjoy!
Continue to Abadín
Today's stage leads you through the inner plateau of Lugo, known as Terra Cha. Enjoy exploring small villages like O Vilar or Lousada on your way to your next stop in Abadin.
Reach Vilalba
Set out this morning with green meadows and forests paving the way to Villalba, the capital of Terra Chá. Once here, it is well worth seeing the Torreón de los Condes de Andrade before settling in for a nice meal and comfortable overnight.
Hike to Seixón
Enjoy this undulating rural stage, as you continue on mostly dirt roads to reach O Seixón.
Walk to Sobrado dos Monxes
Today’s route is challenging and features some significant changes in elevation. Although they are moderate, they are continuous, which makes the stage a little difficult! A rural landscape sets the scene for this phase that will have you reaching the maximum height of the entire northern route, at 700 meters today.
Arrive to Arzúa
Today you’ll walk to Arzúa, where some of the best cheese in all of Spain awaits you. Happy walking, and enjoy!
Hike to O Pedrouzo
Joining the French Way today, you’ll continue the trail to O Pedrouzo on quiet country lanes leading you closer to Santiago de Compostela.
Reach Santiago de Compostela
The last stage of your journey unfolds today, as the anticipation rides! We recommend leaving O Pedrouzo early to take part in the pilgrimage, which is celebrated at 12:00 p.m at the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. First you’ll reach Lavacolla and continue climbing Monte do Gozo, where you can catch a glimpse of the long - awaited cathedral from a distance. Finally, you’ll reach Plaza del Obradoiro where the well - deserved personal satisfaction of having reached this point overwhelms you.
