Explore the English Way trail in Spain from Ferrol to Santiago de Compostela
Whether you are looking for a pilgrimage or just a unique walking tour in northern Spain, look no further than the English Way self-guided tour. Also known as the Camino Ingles, this pilgrimage is a wonderful way to see some of the highlights of Northern Spain.
Follow the traditional pilgrim route of the Camino Ingles from the port of Ferrol to the legendary city of Santiago de Compostela for the experience of a lifetime.
The English Way, or Camino Inglés, got its name because pilgrims coming from England and other parts of northern Europe arrived in Galicia by boat, typically at the port of Ferrol, and began their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela from there.
Today the route passes through gorgeous rural countryside and a variety of small towns and villages. The religious heritage of the region is clear as you pass many ancient monasteries, churches, chapels, and stone crosses called cruceiros. Complete your journey and your Pilgrim Passport and you will receive an official Compostela (pilgrim certificate) when you arrive in Santiago de Compostela.
This incredible self-guided tour allows you to move at your own pace without worrying about planning accommodations, luggage transfers, and most meals. Your focus is on the journey, not the details. Register for your English Way adventure today!
Arrive today in the city of Ferrol, and the Atlantic coast of Galicia in Spain. This is the starting point for your hike on the English Way. If you have time, a visit to the Port of Ferrol is highly recommended.
Begin your pilgrimage on the Camino Ingles with the longest segment of the trail. The walk from Ferrol to Pontedeume is 30 km long, though you can choose to extend your tour and divide this stage across two days. As you pass through the town of Neda, be sure to stop at the ancient Monastery of San Martiño de Xubia. Also called the Monastery of Xuvia, the beautiful Romanesque architecture from the 12th Century does not require a tour from the trail and is well worth exploring.
Today’s route hugs the coast, giving you wonderful views all along the way. Along the way from Pontedeume to Betanzos, stop at the iconic San Pantaleón de las Viñas church to rest and explore. Finish your day in the coastal town of Betanzos.
The walk from Betanzos to Mesón do Vento is quiet and peaceful as you traverse the rural Galician countryside. The terrain will be a blend of unpaved paths and paved roads and at times you will follow the lovely river. Spend the night in Mesón do Vento.
Continue along the English Way as it leads you through more rural areas and small, remote villages. You’ll pass a number of lovely chapels and stone crosses called cruceiros. Stop for the night in Sigüeiro.
Complete the English Way today with a short, 12 km walk from Sigüeiro to Santiago de Compostela. As you approach the city, you can see the impressive cathedral from a long distance. You will arrive in Santiago de Compostela with time to explore this amazing city. Don’t forget to take your Pilgrim Passport to the Pilgrim’s Office in order to receive your official pilgrim certificate, called a Compostela.
Sadly, your English Way walking tour has come to an end. After breakfast, check out of your hotel and begin your travels from Santiago de Compostela. Have a pleasant journey!

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
