Ride the Via Verde of Catalonia to enjoy a lesser-travelled path
The stunning Catalonian Coast is a huge draw for visitors from all over the world, but the Cycling the Via Verde of Catalonia tour gives you a special peek into a part of Catalonia lesser-travelled, delivering all the same world-class experiences with lighter crowds.
Cycle the most idyllic pathways, following old railways, viaducts, rivers, and the stunning coastline. At each stop are welcoming villages, so pop into the local Picasso museum, stop for tapas, or say hi to the locals. The catch of the day is always fresh, and there’s always local wine to try! You’ll ride through nature reserves teeming with birds, plants, and sea life, cruise through vineyards, and enjoy the flat trails of wetlands. After your rides each day, revel in the seaside from the comfort of happy fishing villages. For an exploration of the lesser-known side of unforgettable Catalonia, the Cycling the Via Verde of Catalonia tour is the perfect option!
Welcome to Reus! You’ve got the day today to explore. Walk through the Old Town and enjoy the plentiful modernist art here.
Begin the day with a transfer to Alcañiz, where you’ll have an orientation meeting and bike fitting. Armed with everything you need for the tour, you’ll start with an easy ride to Alcañiz. There’s a serene lake near the town, La Estancia, that’s perfect for a quiet stop.
Explore the unique ecosystem of Las Saladas, salt lakes inhabited by hardy animals and plants, before settling into Alcañiz for the night.
After breakfast, set out along a peaceful side road to Valdealgorfa. This is a perfect stop for a coffee! Next, it’s off along a lush greenway lined by olive groves and vineyards. You’ll cycle a long viaduct that crosses the Matarraña River, a highlight of today’s ride.
Arrive in Horta de Sant Joan, where Picasso used to spend his summers. There’s a little museum here dedicated to his works, so swing by before dinner.
Today’s going to be a scenic one! Begin by following the greenway along the canyon of a nearby river. Several tunnels and viaducts are hints of the area’s railroad past. Ride through the Nature Reserve of Els Ports, full of verdant plant life and the hum of birds and animals. Keep your eyes on the trees to see what you can spot!
You’ll end the day in Tortosa, a town with years of fascinating history to discover over a chat with locals at dinner.
Rise this morning in Tortosa, riding alongside the Ebro River, canals and orchards lining your path. You’ll start to see rice fields dominating the landscape as you enter the flatlands. Getting closer to the ocean, the landscapes change once again as wetlands take over.
Finally, at the coast, you’ll find your hotel in L’Ampolla. Tonight, paella and the beach are on order!
Ride a loop from L’Ampolla today, touring the Dela de l’Ebre, a triangular peninsula of protected land. You’ll navigate a maze of trails that cut through wetlands, lagoons, and miles of beach. Watch for the massive colonies of migratory birds and abundant sea life.
Back in L’Ampolla, find one last restaurant to celebrate the end of your tour in, feasting on Spanish cuisine’s best and sipping local wine.

I’ve been using 10A route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10A made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
