Discover Italy's mountains and lakes on this 7-day self-guided cycling adventure
Book this epic cycling holiday in Northern Italy, that takes you through the Dolomites and ends at Lake Garda. Cycle along paved, protected roads, dipping deep into the valleys stretching across South Tyrol and Trentino. Encounter a myriad of medieval wonders as you wind from alpine regions—Passo di Resia—to the postcard-painted Lake Garda in northern Italy.
Pass by vineyards and apple orchards, while the Dolomites and Alps stagger in the background. Amid the collection of enchanting views, you’ll encounter quaint villages stamped by magnificent, storied architectural pieces, such as ancient castles.
Enjoy incredible Italian food and wine, while marveling at the history and beauty of this wonderful part of Northern Italy. The thought of traversing Italian valleys by bicycle may sound daunting, but this self-guided tour offers calm routes that even children teenagers can enjoy.
Arrive in Silandro, located in the sprawling Venosta Valley, and spend the rest of your day meandering the mountain-tucked city. Check out the pointed, lofty church tower while you’re here.
Enjoy a tasty breakfast before embarking on your first cycling adventure of this tour. At 10 am, transfer to Passo di Resia. Undergo a short trip briefing and get your bike fitted before pedaling through the mountain pass, a paved pathway divided by green grass, with snow-capped mountain peaks blanketing your view in the near distance. Cycle along the stunning Lake Resia and pass by the half-sunken church tower peeking out of the glistening sheet of water. Twist by Burgusio and Clusio—two quaint villages—before reaching Glorenza. This town may be small, but it’s packed with history—which is evident in its fortification. Let the Adige River take you to Lasa, another village before you make the final stretch back to Silandro.
Today you’ll hop on your bike and ride to one of the most famous spa towns: Merano. En route, twist through pine forests and admire the snow-swept mountains towering in the backdrop. Stop in Naturno for a cappuccino and some people watching. Hop back on your bike and cycle through a narrow ravine until the scenery collapses into a wide valley. Spend the rest of the day strolling through Merano, where European-style buildings stand in front of snow-swept mountains.
Cycle through a myriad of apple orchards before reaching the capital of South Tyrol, Bolzano. Trade in the view of apples and apple blossoms for grapes. Cycle south, where vineyards pepper the land until you reach Caldaro. Marvel at the shimmering hues blanketing Lake Caldaro.
Enjoy breakfast before heading to Strada del Vino for a romantic ride through a collection of charming, cheerful wine villages. Eventually, you’ll dip into Adige Valley and pass by Egna and Salorno, two longstanding little towns. Once you arrive, drop off your bike at your hotel in the old part of town and check out some of the historical jewels dotting the city, such as the Buonconsiglio Castle Museum.
Begin your ride along the sparkling Adige River until you reach the town of Rovereto. From here, you will embark on a gentle ascent. Encounter gorgeous views of Lake Garda. Go down the path until you arrive in Riva del Garda. Navigate through ancient alleys until you get to your hotel. Keep in mind that you have the option to extend your trip for another day. This additional day will take you past more medieval monuments, etched with rich tales, and through more breathtaking views. If you opt for this, you will stay in Riva del Garda for two nights rather than just one.
The tour ends after breakfast. Travel to Rovereto via bus or taxi, and then hop on a train to the airport with your scheduled departure.

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
