Crossing the Chilean border, you’ll spend a day wandering along the picturesque archipelago of Puerto Varas, where 16 weathered wooden churches are recognized by UNESCO and delightful to explore. Return to Argentina by land or water, the massive Osorno volcano keeping watch over you as you go. Lakes of Argentina and Chile Tour itinerary

Day 1 Bariloche

You’ll be met at the airport in Bariloche to begin your tour or Argentinian lakes, walking a loop around the area to familiarize yourself. Begin alongside Nahuel Huapi Lake, hike up Campanario Hill, and then take a minute to enjoy excellent views of the surrounding lakes. Next, it’s on to the Llao Llao Peninsula and the Arrayanes forest. The hike ends at a natural balcony overlooking Moreno Lake.

Note: you should arrive before the midday.

End of a full first day with a tasting at a local brewery and then settle into your hotel.

Day 2 Castaño Glacier Trek

The options for exploration around Bariloche are extensive, and today you’ll trek the Castaño Glacier to experience a highlight of the area. You’ll hike through a waterfall-clad forest, the water coming from hanging glaciers and the roar of ice falling occasionally being heard. Enjoy the impressive glacier views before returning to town in the late afternoon.

Day 3 Andean Crossing and Sailing Frias Lake

Early this morning, head out to a nearby port to begin the Andean Crossing, also known as the Lake Crossing. This is a natural route between Bariloche and Puerto Varas. You’ll sail to Puerto Blest, drive to Frias Port, sail across Frias Lake - a stunning lake in Argentina, and then cross the border into Chile. From here, you’ll sail to Petrohue along the Todos Los Santos Lake. If the weather is clear, you’ll be able to see the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes.

You’ll end your journey in Puerto Varas on the South Pacific Ocean. After a day on the water, enjoy dry land as you eat dinner and rest up.

Day 4 Leisure Day in Puerto Varas

Today’s all yours to enjoy the maritime city of Puerto Varas. Here, the wild sea is all you’ll see for miles if you look west.

You can opt to take an excursion to Chiloé’s Archipelago, an island with plenty of natural and cultural attractions. The island is dotted with old wooden churches, 16 of which have been named UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Day 5 Return to Argentina and the 300-Year Old Forest

Return to Argentina today by land or water depending on your preference, watching the grand Osorno volcano pass by. You’ll stop into a few small towns for breaks before crossing the border. Once in Argentina again, you’ll take a boat ride to Arrayanes Forest, where 300-year old trees have earned the forest an Intangible Area and Natural Monument distinction.

Return by boat to the port, then disembark and transfer to your hotel for the night.

Day 6 Tour Concludes

If you have time today, you can take an optional kayaking excursion on Moreno Lake. Once it's time, you’ll transfer to the airport to depart. Adios!
