Sail the enchanted lakes of Argentina and Chile on this 6-day tour
Want to get your sea legs under you? Sail the lakes that connect Argentina and Chile in Patagonia and the Chilean Lake District on the Lakes of Argentina and Chile tour reaching the ocean on the western coast of South America. You’ll blend time on the water with time on land, discovering the cultural and natural wonders in this region through hikes and sailings.
Begin in Bariloche, where you’ll come to know the convivial local culture through a tasting at a local brewery. You’ll set out on the Andean Crossing, boating across some of the most beautiful lakes in Argentina - Frias Lake and Todos Los Santos Lake. Crossing the Chilean border, you’ll spend a day wandering along the picturesque archipelago of Puerto Varas, where 16 weathered wooden churches are recognized by UNESCO and delightful to explore. Return to Argentina by land or water, the massive Osorno volcano keeping watch over you as you go. A little land, a little water, and a whole lot of adventure await on the Enchanted Lakes of Argentina and Chile tour!
You’ll be met at the airport in Bariloche to begin your tour or Argentinian lakes, walking a loop around the area to familiarize yourself. Begin alongside Nahuel Huapi Lake, hike up Campanario Hill, and then take a minute to enjoy excellent views of the surrounding lakes. Next, it’s on to the Llao Llao Peninsula and the Arrayanes forest. The hike ends at a natural balcony overlooking Moreno Lake.
Note: you should arrive before the midday.
End of a full first day with a tasting at a local brewery and then settle into your hotel.
The options for exploration around Bariloche are extensive, and today you’ll trek the Castaño Glacier to experience a highlight of the area. You’ll hike through a waterfall-clad forest, the water coming from hanging glaciers and the roar of ice falling occasionally being heard. Enjoy the impressive glacier views before returning to town in the late afternoon.
Early this morning, head out to a nearby port to begin the Andean Crossing, also known as the Lake Crossing. This is a natural route between Bariloche and Puerto Varas. You’ll sail to Puerto Blest, drive to Frias Port, sail across Frias Lake - a stunning lake in Argentina, and then cross the border into Chile. From here, you’ll sail to Petrohue along the Todos Los Santos Lake. If the weather is clear, you’ll be able to see the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes.
You’ll end your journey in Puerto Varas on the South Pacific Ocean. After a day on the water, enjoy dry land as you eat dinner and rest up.
Today’s all yours to enjoy the maritime city of Puerto Varas. Here, the wild sea is all you’ll see for miles if you look west.
You can opt to take an excursion to Chiloé’s Archipelago, an island with plenty of natural and cultural attractions. The island is dotted with old wooden churches, 16 of which have been named UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Return to Argentina today by land or water depending on your preference, watching the grand Osorno volcano pass by. You’ll stop into a few small towns for breaks before crossing the border. Once in Argentina again, you’ll take a boat ride to Arrayanes Forest, where 300-year old trees have earned the forest an Intangible Area and Natural Monument distinction.
Return by boat to the port, then disembark and transfer to your hotel for the night.
If you have time today, you can take an optional kayaking excursion on Moreno Lake. Once it's time, you’ll transfer to the airport to depart. Adios!

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
