Hike to the summit of Greece’s legendary Mount Olympus
Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece and the fabled home of Zeus and the Greek Gods. This self-guided trekking tour takes you on the legendary path up the mountain and into the clouds, where you can look out over the expansive landscape of Mount Olympus National Park with the Aegean Sea to the east.
During your trek, you’ll visit a cave chapel, the Agios Dionysios Monastery, and the Skolio Summit. Your accommodation will be in simple mountain huts, where you’ll have a bed and a place to prepare your meals—no need to carry a tent on this trek, making each step easier. An ultimate and unforgettable week-long expedition to this mythological hot spot awaits you on the Mount Olympus & Northern Greece Hiking Tour.
When you’ve arrived at the foothills of Mount Olympus, you’ll find the town of Litochoro. This is where most hikers begin their trek up the mountain. You’ll have time to explore a little bit and get any last provisions you’ll need for your hike.
Your trail starts along the Enipeas River and quickly begins to climb 900 meters to the Agios Dionysios Monastery. Take your time! The path is short and steep, so take breaks all afternoon to appreciate your surroundings.
You’ll finally reach the ruins of the Agios Dionysios Monastery, which is where your taxi will meet you to drive you back to Litochoro.
This morning, a transfer will take you back to the monastery, where you’ll begin your walk again. Along your route, you’ll pass an ancient chapel in a cave and many sparkling rivers and river pools. You’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into a fairytale as you cross the water on little footbridges and stepping stones.
Settle into a mountain hut for the night.
Today, you’ll trek to new heights as you climb higher up the alpine terrain. You’ll reach the Skala Summit first (2866m), and then you’ll climb the ridge to Skolio Summit (2911m), which is the highest point of the trek. From both summits, you’ll have unmatched views of the surrounding mountains.
Continue your hike to the Plateau of Muses, where you’ll rest for the night.
You’ll enjoy the easier pace today after the challenging hikes yesterday. You’ll slowly descend from the Plateau of Muses to the Giosos Pass and Lemos Ridge.
Eventually, you’ll find you’ve left the alpine heights behind and as you walk through the forest again. Reach your third mountain hut and get a well-earned rest.
Today will be a short and pleasant walk through the forest. Occasionally, the trees will break and offer you a tremendous view of the sea. When you reach the church of Ag. Konstantinos, your transfer will meet you and drive you the rest of the way to Litochoro.
Take an afternoon swim or explore Litochoro to celebrate your successful journey.
This morning, your tour is officially complete after you’ve checked out of your hotel. You can return to the Thessaloniki airport or depart for your next destination.

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
