Day 1 Arrival in Chengdu

Welcome to China! Your local guide will pick you up at the airport and accompany you into Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province. Take a quick tour of the city and visit the People’s Park, admiring the old centre’s ancient alleys with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Get some rest in the hotel tonight for a great week ahead.

Day 2 Visit Panda Sanctuary + Head to Kangding

After breakfast, depart for a stopover at the Bifengxia Panda Base, which has rescued over 20 pandas where they now roam among a preserved habitat. The mountain roads you’ll drive on today will take your breath away with views of the Tibetan Plateau’s impending peaks. Arrive in Kangding for the night and learn about this significant area known as the gateway to Kham. Tibetan and Han people have a history here, which you’ll note in the architecture and local traditions.

Day 3 Explore the Sichuan-Tibet Highway

Today is filled with cultural stops along the Sichuan-Tibetan Highway. After driving over Zheduo Shan Pass, you come upon the Lhagang Monastery, where monks practice the Sakya sect of Tibetan Buddhism. You’ll feel the spirituality here surrounded by three peaks symbolizing those who seek enlightenment (Bodhisattva). Continue to the Gyergo Nunnery to see and hear the nuns praying in their convent surrounded by the stunning Hepingfahui wall. Take a short walk around here to the hill next to the Muya Golden Pagoda to get an impressive view of Yala Mountain in the distance. Before reaching the final destination of Danba village, make a stopover in Jiaju village to snap some pictures of the unique architecture of the residential homes.

Day 4 Arrive in Siguniangshan Town for Sunset

In the morning, take time to wander the ancient stone structures in Danba and Suopo, unique brick towers jutting out from the forested landscape. Hop in the car and head to the beginning of your hiking destination in Siguniangshan Town. As you draw nearer, you will see the imposing 5000-metre peaks from the window—these are the Four Sisters. When you arrive, take an leisurely hike in the nearby Shuangqiao Valley and stay outside to watch the sunset illuminate the peaks in shades of pink and purple. Get a good rest tonight because your trek starts tomorrow.

Day 5 Trek to Lama Monastery

Your first day in the Four Sister Mountain area will not disappoint. After breakfast, get your backpack on and ready for an 8-hour hike through breathtaking mountain scenery of snow-capped mountains, dense forests, alpine meadows, and glassy lakes. Hike through the Changpinggou Valley and reach Lam Monastery for a visit to this remote spiritual site. Continue to your campsite near Muluozi.

Day 6 Tranquil Trek Through Changpinggou Valley

After your first night in nature, you will continue walking further away from civilization. Today’s route takes you through the tranquil forest, where you will have plenty of time to admire the beauty. You will trek for about 6 hours today before reaching the end of the valley to set up camp.

Day 7 Hike to Xiaoqiao in Bipenggou Valley

By now, you’re getting used to camping in the backcountry and waking up to hike! Today is no different. Rise early for a mountain breakfast cooked up by your guides, then hit the trail. The route today has some challenging elevation for which your guides will hire horses to help carry equipment. Hike into the Bipenggou Valley, which is full of vibrant vegetation in stunning colours, especially in autumn, then set up camp in Xiaoqiao for your last night under the stars.

Day 8 Trek Bipenggou Valley + Transfer to Chengdu

Rise early for your last morning camping in the mountains, and maybe catch a sunrise over the snowy peaks. Enjoy a shorter hike out of the Bipenggou Valley for about 8 km on a trail lined with maple trees and other gorgeous fauna. Once the trek is complete, you will receive private transport to the hotel in Chengdu with a quick stop at Taoping Village to learn about the Qiang people who inhabit the area. Spend the evening at your leisure, wandering Chengdu, and getting your fill of Sichuan cuisine before departure.

Day 9 Farewell
