Cycle through Tuscany from the hills to the ocean
From splendid Siena to the unique Elba Island, the Tuscany Hills and Sea Road Bike Tour is a perfect way to soak up the world-class scenery of Tuscany, one of Italy’s most desirable regions. With rides taking you up and down, between the hills and the sea, you’ll experience the views while also adventuring. A road bike is a privileged viewpoint to appreciate the inimitable variety of landscapes from, and with your wheels to take you everywhere, you can discover hidden villages full of history and acres of unspoiled nature.
Each night, you’ll enjoy carefully chosen characteristic accommodation and delicious dinners in restaurants serving local dishes and the wines of the best vineyards. With a guide and a minibus always at hand, the intermediate cyclist and better can take the adventure of a lifetime from the hills to the sea of Tuscany.
When you arrive in Siena, you’ll enjoy a welcome drink, get your bike fitted, and then have dinner with the group.
You first ride takes place in the Chianti Hills area. This area, famous all over the world, is the birthplace of Chianti wine. You’ll start your cycling day riding through rolling hills surrounded by vineyards.
Once you arrive in Radda in Chianti, you’ll stop for a cappuccino and cornetto in the magnificent old square. After your stop, keep on riding with views of vineyards and historic villages. At the hotel, wind down in the swimming pool and get ready for a delicious dinner.
Starting from Siena, cross through small hillside villages and enjoy a view of the castle of Monteriggion. Reach Abbadia a Isola, which was an important stop along the Via Francigena, the ancient route that in medieval times connected Canterbury to Rome. Then, continue to Castel Pietraio and Colle Val d’Elsa, an ancient Etruscan town that owes its development in the 15th century to glass production. Finally, arrive in Volterra, an ancient town with over 3,000 years of history. Situated in the province of Pisa, Volterra is considered one of the Italian municipalities that has best conserved its Etruscan origins.
Begin today with a ride through a small hamlet, Saline di Volterra, famous for its saltwater springs and for salt production. Continue through historical villages including Sarezzano, Monteverdi Maritime and Doronatico en route to your destination, San Vincenzo.
On the Ligurian Sea on the famous Etruscan Coast, San Vincenzo developed as a town in ancient times and is therefore of extreme historical and cultural importance. In 1971, the Giro d’Italia started and finished in San Vincenzo, which is now an important tourist resort. After settling into your room, you will have time to relax and get ready for an excellent dinner with the rest of the group.
After breakfast and a ferry from Piombino to Portoferraio on Elba Island, you ride out to explore the island. The green oasis of the Tuscan archipelago, Elba Island is a mixture of beaches and cliffs, terraces overlooking the sea, and villages perched on the hillsides with magnificent colour. The third largest island in Italy, Elba was, thanks to its iron deposits, the heart of the Etruscan civilization and the remains of outposts and the Necropolis can still be seen today.
Arrive in Rio dell’Elba, a typical medieval hamlet where a rushing stream worked the many mills. Soon after, continue up the road, which offers breathtaking views at every turn. Reach Capoliveri, a beautiful medieval village perched on a hill, for a break before returning to Portoferraio, a Medici town with museums, mansions, and fortresses.
The day starts with breakfast before heading off in the direction of Procchio and the smallest municipality on the island, Marciana Marina. As you climb up through the hills, you will pass through the hamlet of Poggio, nestled among century-old chestnut woods. Reach Marciana, one of the most ancient inhabited areas of the island, then descend in the direction of the island’s most famous beaches. Reach Marina di Campo, a village situated at the foot of two hills.
Arrive back in Portoferraio. An excellent dinner in the company of the group concludes your superb stay on the island.
After breakfast, you will transfer by minibus back to Siena. Safe travels!

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

My wife Sarah and I had a great experience booking our 7-day cycling trip through Portugal via 10Adventures. The communication between us and Nadine leading up the trip was top-notch!

Communicating with 10Adventures feels like talking with a family-run business. I love to explore and travel, and exploring with the comfort of knowing I can talk to the team at 10Adventures with almost immediate feedback helps to ease any stress that comes with adventuring!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
