Itinerary for Walk the Le Puy Camino: Conques to Cahors
Arrival in Conques
Welcome to Conques, one of the most enchanting medieval villages in southwest France. As your local hosts, we love watching walkers experience this village for the first time — winding stone lanes, fortified gates, ancient towers, and the constant murmur of history. Explore the magnificent Sainte-Foy Abbey and its dazzling Treasury before settling in for a peaceful night in this timeless pilgrim town.
Conques to Livinhac-le-Haut
You begin with a magical crossing of the medieval bridge over the Dourdou River as morning mist lifts from the valley. A steady climb takes you to the hillside Chapel of Sainte-Foy, where леген speaks of a spring that restores tired eyes and weary spirits. Behind you, Conques slowly fades into the distance as vast countryside opens ahead. Tonight, you rest in the quiet riverside village of Livinhac-le-Haut.
Livinhac-le-Haut to Figeac
Today the trail transforms as you cross from Aveyron into the Lot — a true shift in character and landscape. Forests give way to wider horizons as you climb towards panoramic viewpoints overlooking Decazeville. The path leads you onward to the lively, historic town of Figeac, rich with Renaissance charm and warm pilgrim hospitality.
Figeac to Saint-Chels
A bold day of exploration as you climb onto a wild, windswept plateau. This is raw, rugged France — stony tracks, wide skies, and sweeping views in every direction. The reward comes with every step. You’ll overnight in the quiet stone village of Saint-Chels, where the night sky feels wonderfully vast.
Saint-Chels to Cajarc
Today softens into a gentler adventure through forests and shaded paths. You’ll pass ancient dolmens, mysterious stone shelters, and some of the oldest crosses on the entire Camino route — silent guardians of a prehistoric landscape. Your destination is the beautiful riverside village of Cajarc, dramatically cradled by towering limestone cliffs.
Cajarc to Limogne-en-Quercy
This is a walker’s favourite: peaceful woodland, rolling farmland, and the vast limestone plateaus known locally as the Causses du Quercy. The walking is easy and flowing, giving you time to breathe deeply, photograph the scenery, and truly sink into the rhythm of the Camino.
Limogne-en-Quercy to Lalbenque
An atmospheric day through the great forests of the Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy. Trails weave through ancient woodland and forgotten stone landscapes, dotted with dolmens and old shepherd shelters. If you have the chance, reward yourself by tasting the region’s famous black truffle — a true local treasure.
Lalbenque to Cahors
Your final walking day delivers a spectacular finish. The trail rolls gently through vineyards and golden farmland towards Cahors, beautifully wrapped in a loop of the Lot River. Along the way, you’ll spot traditional stone caselles — small shepherd shelters unique to this landscape. In Cahors, admire the legendary Valentré Bridge (a UNESCO World Heritage treasure) and the magnificent Saint-Étienne Cathedral. This is a triumphant arrival into one of the most beautiful historic towns on the Camino.
Departure from Cahors
After breakfast, your journey officially ends — but the Camino spirit stays with you. Many walkers choose to add an extra night here or continue onwards towards Lectoure to extend the adventure.
