Enjoy a spectacular section of the Le Puy Camino on this 8-day self-guided pilgrimage from Aumont-Aubrac to Conques in southern France's Occitanie region.
The Le Puy Camino, also known as the Via Podiensis, has seen pilgrims and adventurers alike walking and cycling its ancient paths across southern France for decades. The full Le Puy Camino begins in Le Puy and ends in St. Jean Pied de Port, and this tour invites you to embark on the second section, walking from beautiful Aumont-Aubrac in the heart of Lozère to ancient Conques.
The scenic trail unfolds across the spectacular Aubrac plateau, where green fields and lush pastures extend as far as the eye can see. Sleepy villages dot the route, each with its unique charm and gastronomic tradition. The route continues in the breathtaking Lot Valley, where plunging gorges and limestone cliffs paint the way as you spend each day immersed in a natural oasis.
The route has pilgrims walking east to west from Aubrac-Aumant. Start at Nasbinals, with its 14th-century church, then continue along the Aubrac Plateau through Saint-Chely-d’Aubrac and Saint-Côme-d’Olt. Overnight stays in Estaing and Golinhac are to follow before completing the route in Conques, home to two extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including an abbey and ancient bridge.
The Le Puy Camino affords walkers the perfect balance of nature, history, and culture and invites you to experience an authentic France. Seize this remarkable opportunity to embark on a unique adventure in southern France. Book your very own pilgrimage on the Le Puy Camino today!
Your pilgrimage on the Le Puy Camino begins at the very heart of the Lozère department in the medieval village of Aumont-Aubrac. The charming village has always been a significant stop for pilgrims on the route, making it a fitting place to begin your very own pilgrimage.
Lace up your hiking boots and get ready to set out on the Le Puy Camino this morning! Today you’ll walk in the heart of Aubrac, where cattle-filled pastures and slow, sleepy villages await. Enjoy this peaceful route through pastoral lands as you walk to your next stop on the route, Nasbinals.
Once settled into your accommodations, set out on an evening stroll to take in the 14th-century church here, another site of immense importance to medieval pilgrims.
Set out this morning ready to seize another wonderful day on the Le Puy Camino as you walk to Saint-Chely-d’Aubrac. The starkly beautiful landscapes of the Aubrac paint your path today as you navigate the wild green plateau found at the southern edge of the Auvergne.
Stop for lunch at a local buron or country inn, delighting in local dishes like “aligot” or a selection of assorted meats from the mountain.
Enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the Lot Valley today as you walk in the land of Olt, nestled at the foot of the Aubrac plateau. Tracing the river Lot, you’ll take in dramatic gorges and robust vineyards as you walk towards the medieval village of Saint-Côme-d’Olt, one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (Most Beautiful Villages in France).
Find your accommodations here before setting out to explore the town’s enchanting medieval center.
This morning you’ll set out and return to tracing the Lot River as you navigate the lush valley. Bound for Estaing, you’ll arrive in the medieval village, which boasts an impressive ancient bridge and a spectacular castle built around an old dungeon square.
Day 6 on the Le Puy Camino marks your departure from the Lot Valley (which you’ve no doubt come to love!). You’ll make your way to lovely Golinhac, where you’ll find yet another remarkable church, this one with a stone cross and sculpted pilgrim erected on it.
Press on this morning as you embark on a challenging section to Conques, where you’ll find your efforts of the day well rewarded! Conques is home to an ancient abbey and pilgrim’s bridge, both listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and of great importance to pilgrims on the Le Puy Camino. The Saint Faith Abbey Church of Conques houses a golden reliquary statue dating to the 9th century, making it a fascinating encounter with ancient history.
Upon your arrival in Conques, your pilgrimage on the Le Puy Camino comes to an end. Enjoy the evening revelling in the holy sites of Conques as you feel a sense of accomplishment begin to sink in.

There are several famous pilgrims’ routes that have been used for thousands of years, often with a sacred site as the destination. Some of the world’s most famous pilgrimages are The Way of St James (France and Spain), Sanctuary of Atotonilco (Mexico), and Mount Kailash (Tibet).

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
