Walk the northern portion of the legendary Costa Brava
The Costa Brava is one of the top destinations in Spain, where the radiant ocean meets sandy beaches and charming fishing villages welcome tourists from all over the globe. Discover the northern reaches of this idyllic stretch on the Walking the Northern Costa Brava tour!
This walking adventure begins in Llançà and covers plenty of ground to your endpoint in Sant Pere Pescador. Explore the Cap de Creus natural park, where an iconic lighthouse adorns a high cliff. Pass castles and monasteries dating back many years, meet flocks of seabirds, and roam between the Mediterranean coast and the foothills of the Pyrenees. With unique stops like Salvador Dali’s house and accommodations picked in towns that truly showcase the hospitality of the Catalan people. With a sea breeze on your face and the warm Spanish sun following you, the Walking the Northern Costa Brava tour is one you won’t want to end. And if you don’t, combine it with the Walking the Southern Costa Brava tour!
Get ready for the week ahead with a welcome meeting in Llançà. This is your chance to prepare, ask questions, collect your information, and go over the route with a tour representative. Depending on your arrival time, this meeting can also be run tomorrow morning.
Ready to go, you’ll spend the evening enjoying Llançà at your leisure.
Waste no time with a spectacular itinerary today, beginning with a ride to Portbou. From here, you’ll follow the Mediterranea through Catalonia to Valencia. You’ll weave from the coastline, into the mountains, and back. Stroll through sprawling vineyards with gorgeous sea views, soaking up every second as you make your way back to Llançà.
After breakfast, start walking towards the Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery. This monastery was built in 878, and it’s still splendid today.
Continue to the San Salvador de Verdera Castle, a jaw-dropping hilltop castle ruin, before dipping down through a natural park to your hotel.
Begin the day with a transfer from Port de la Selva to the Cap de Creus lighthouse, one of the most iconic sights in Cap de Creus Natural Park. This is where the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea meet one another, and it’s a spectacular place to be.
Continue along the park’s moonlike landscapes, surrounded by old stone walls as you go. You’ll pass Salvador Dali’s house, where you can stop in for a peek, before finishing today’s adventure in Cadaqués. You can take an optional transfer to Tudela Natural Area to extend your walk if you’d like.
Today’s walk will be one of wild contrasts as you cover ground in the southern part of Cap de Creus, heading towards Cala Montjoi. This is a perfect spot to stop for lunch, enjoying some sun while you dig into paella or Spanish prawns.
Continue along beaches popular with visitors and seaside caves on the way to Roses.
After breakfast and your morning coffee, start towards Empuriabrava. This stretch of shoreline is one of the oldest tourist destinations along the Costa Brava, and it’s marked by a network of canals up to 30km in length.
After enjoying this spot, continue on to an ecologically diverse area with lots of migratory birds to spot. You’re nearly in Sant Pere Pescador, your destination for the night.
Congratulations! Your walking adventure of the northern Costa Brava is complete, and you’ll head to the airport to depart. There is a complimentary tour that takes you through the southern Costa Brava, so check that one out to continue your adventure!

I’ve been using 10A route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10A made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
