The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is the largest National Forest in California, offering countless adventure opportunities in the 2,210,485 acres of combined forestlands. Located at the intersection of the Klamath Mountains and the Cascade Range, the landscape of the National Forest is characterized by soaring crests, rolling foothills, subalpine forests, montane meadows, and numerous alpine lakes and streams. Encompassing over 6278.0mi of rivers and streams and five wilderness areas: Castle Crags, Chanchelulla, Mount Shasta, Trinity Alps, and Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel, the National Forest is awaiting exploration. A landscape ranging from 1000ft to over 14100ft, the crown jewel and namesake of one of the wilderness areas—Mount Shasta, attracts thousands of determined adventures year-round. However, the potentially active volcano that stands at 14180ft and of over 15,000 annual summit attempts, only a third are successful. The second-highest peak in the Cascades, the cloud-scraping summit, is the National Forest's unofficial trademark.

Aside from summit ascents up Mount Shasta, the recreational activities in the wilderness areas are abundant. The summer months offer a diverse repertoire of adventures. Hike to Burney Falls, swim in the largest human-made lake in California—Shasta Lake, explore Pluto’s Cave, kayak in Lake Siskiyou, or fish in the Sacramento River. The warmer months also boast ideal camping and backpacking opportunities. Those daring enough to brave the cold can enjoy hiking with the increased possibility of avalanches, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing activities.

Beckoning adventurers of all skill levels, ages, and preferences, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest is a natural oasis worth visiting. Discover the beauty and diversity of Northern California as you tour around the largest National Forest in the state.
