Route Description for Spruce Bog Boardwalk Trail

There isn’t really anything bad that you can say about the Spruce Bog Boardwalk Trail, except maybe the fact that it just isn’t long enough! This charming loop trail measures an overall distance of 1.8 km, making it one of the shorter hikes within Algonquin Provincial Park. If you are looking for a grand adventure, this isn’t it; however, you can easily tack it onto another day-hike, or utilize the quick walk as a means to stretch your legs while passing through on the highway. Parking can be limited during the height of summer, so try arriving a few minutes early to secure a space. Even still, the short nature of the route means that a space should open up in no time!

Setting out from the parking area, the trail will take you to the northwest for a short bit of hiking through the forest before it turns to the northeast to traverse the bog portion of the hike. Continue along the wooden boardwalk as it cuts across the marshy terrain, crossing over the winding waters of Sunday Creek before entering back into the cover of the trees. Keep an eye out for the various species of animal that can be found along the trail, including chipmunks, Spruce Grouse, and chickadees. After looping through the forest, the trail will turn to the southwest and once again traverse the creek and surrounding bog before arriving back at the parking area where you began your short adventure.
