Upper Muley Twist Canyon
The Upper Muley Twist Canyon Trail is a beautiful hike in a low-traffic area of Capitol Reef National Park. This trail has it all: narrow canyons, sandstone arches, and incredible panoramic views. Navigating this trail can be quite the workout, and the drive in is an adventure in itself but this trail is a fantastic way to sample a little bit of everything that Capitol Reef National Park has to offer.

Route Description for Upper Muley Twist Canyon
The Upper Muley Twist Canyon Trail is a beautiful, challenging hike over diverse desert terrain. The trailhead for this route can only be accessed with a high-clearance, 4WD vehicle. If you only have access to a 2WD and/or low-clearance car, there is an earlier parking area where you can leave your vehicle and hike or bike to the official start of the trail. This hike is a gorgeous tour of Capitol Reef National Park. You will find yourself hiking past graceful sandstone arches, through narrow slot canyons, and along trails with stunning desert views.
From the trailhead, follow the path north to a divide at Saddle Arch. This fork marks the beginning and end of the loop portion of this route. Take a left to follow the loop clockwise.
Upon completing the loop, simply follow the main trail back south to the trailhead.
Getting to the Upper Muley Twist Canyon Trailhead
This trail begins at Upper Muley Twist Canyon Trailhead at the end of Upper Muley Twist Canyon Road (say that five times fast!).
