Route Description for Bisse Neuf and Bisse de Varen Hike
The Bisse Neuf and Bisse de Varen Hike begins in Venthône and travels northeast through deciduous and coniferous undergrowth, before traversing a stretch of terrain characterized by scree, making vegetation there a rarity. From there, an unobstructed view opens onto the vineyards of Varen and Salquenen, and also onto the bed of the Rhône. On the other side is the Bois de Finges pine forest, which since ancient times has colonized the western part of the Ilgraben alluvial cone. After reaching Varen, hikers will need to either transfer back to the starting point or walk the length of the trail again, effectively doubling the overall distance.
