The Blue Grouse Trail is an awesome short but stunning hike in the Golden Gate Canyon State Park that travels through breathtaking towering pines interspersed with golden aspens.
Route Description for Blue Grouse Trail
The Blue Grouse Hike will guide its adventurers along the forest floor through the beautiful Colorado wilderness. This woodland path will transport you through what seems like an enchanted forest. Walk amongst the towering trees and wildlife that inhabit the area. Keep an eye out for elk, moose, deer, and even bears as you travel through the backcountry. Note that this path is located within the bounds of the State Park, so visitors must purchase a $10USD day pass.
Embark on your journey along the Blue Grouse Trail from the trailhead at Kriley Pond. From here, follow the Blue Grouse Trail as it climbs along a rocky ridge exposing mountain views before dipping below the timberline. The path will guide you northwest as it gradually ascends—keep an eye out for wildlife. Breathe in the fresh air and revel in the towering trees. Enjoy more vistas of the Front Range peeking through the tree breaks as you progress along the route.
You will meet the trail’s end when you meet an intersection. If you are craving a longer adventure, simply take one of the merging paths and hike further into the wilderness. If you are ready to return to the trailhead, simply backtrack along the route.
