Route Description for Green Mountain Loop Hike
The Green Mountain Loop is a wonderful adventure along the base of Green Mountain. Adventure through the grassy plains which expose epic views of the surrounding wilderness, including the Dakota Hogback Ridge. Perfect for hikers and bikers, this single-track trail passes through arid terrain. Be mindful of rattlesnakes, keep an eye and ear out as you track through this area! The loop trail is near the interstate, so you may hear traffic as you hike.
Begin your adventure along the Green Mountain Loop Trail from the trailhead. From here, you will have to track the bridge over the interstate before connecting onto the Rooney Valley Trail. At the intersection, turn right onto the path, hiking southeast through the luxuriant meadow. Eventually, you will encounter another junction. Take a sharp left here and you will be diverted onto the Green Mountain Trail.
This section of the path will gradually ascend before curving northwest, now descending the path, and back to the intersection. At this point retrace your footing along the path, across the bridge, and back to the trailhead and parking lot.
