Route Description for Green Mountain Novice Loop
The Green Mountain Novice Loop is an awesome hike. Adventure along the large summit which rewards conquerors with vistas of the Denver cityscape, the foothills, the Dakota Hogback Ridge, and the Red Rocks. Incredibly scenic, the exposed terrain warrants unbearably hot conditions in the summer, so be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen! We also suggest bringing plenty of water because this lengthy hike will tire you out, but in a good way! It is also worth noting that there are rattlesnakes in the area, so as you pass through the arid terrain make sure to keep an eye and ear out!
Departing from the trailhead, take the leftmost Green Mountain Trail. As you hike, notice the sights of Dinosaur Ridge and the Red Rocks. Follow this path until you meet the junction with the Rooney Valley Trail. Here, keep left and trek along the Rooney Valley Trail. This path will soon reconnect with the Green Mountain Trail which will guide you northeast up to the summit. Revel in the panoramic views from atop the peak and continue along the Green Mountain Trail.
Hike southeast past the radio tower and the route will deliver you back to the trailhead and parking lot, marking the end of your Green Mountain adventure!
