Route Description for South Fork Cascade Canyon to Hurricane Pass Hike

Test your limits as you hike the South Fork Cascade Canyon to Hurricane Pass Trail. This demanding high country hike is reserved for intrepid adventurers who aren’t afraid of some challenging terrain. Traveling to high altitudes, it is important to be acclimated and aware of extreme weather conditions. Dress in layers and head out in the early morning to try and summit before noon—mitigating the chances of getting caught in a nasty thunderstorm. Be sure to bring bear spray and download the trail GPS prior to your departure. Note: this route is accessed via the Jenny Lake Boat Shuttle. This boating service charges a fee outside of the Grand Teton National Park entrance fee.

Embark on your adventure along the South Fork Cascade Canyon to Hurricane Pass from the Jenny Lake Trailhead. From here, take the Jenny Lake Loop Trail south before merging onto the North Fork Cascade Creek Trail and subsequently onto the Inspiration Point Trail. Passing the popular overlook, you will hook onto the Cascade Canyon Trail, which will guide you through the prolific canyon bound by the craggy Teton Mountains. After some hiking, you will reach the trail’s end, turn left here, and you will be diverted onto the South Fork Cascade Canyon Trail. Follow this route through the valley behind the Cathedral Group and past several dispersed campsites.

Using the trail GPS as necessary, you will ultimately reach a junction with the Hurricane Pass Trail, take this route southwest through the alpine tundra, past the Schoolroom Glacier, and up to Hurricane Pass. From here, you will be granted panoramic views of the craggy peaks of the Teton Range. Revel in the beauty of the dramatic mountainscape, then head back down the path the way you came, all the way to the boat dock.
