Hummingbird Plume Lookout

The Hummingbird Plume Lookout trail is a beautiful half to full-day hike that has many options to extend and visit nearby landmarks. It passes by Troll Falls early on and follows the Skogan Pass trail before branching off to the lookout. There is a fair amount of elevation gain, but it is worth it for the view.

Route Description for Hummingbird Plume Lookout
To start the Hummingbird Plume Lookout trail in Kananaskis, Alberta, leave the parking area on the main trail and in 100 m stay right at the junction to join the Hay Meadows trail. Pass a junction with Stoney Trail and the Troll Falls trail, bypassing the falls and joining Ruthie’s Trail. 200 m after joining Ruthie’s trail, come to a junction and turn right joining the Skogan Pass trail. The intricate trail system here has many small trails that intertwine and you will find your way to the Skogan Pass trail via any of the aforementioned trails. Take a small detour to Troll Falls if desired.
Follow switchbacks up the Skogan Pass route for 2.2 km before meeting a junction where your lollipop begins. Stay right, making your way up along the Sunburst Trail where a side trail to Hummingbird Plume Lookout rests. Return to the Sunburst trail, staying right to create your lollipop where you will pass the junction that continues on to Skogan Pass. Make your descent here back the way you came.
Getting to the Hummingbird Plume Lookout Trailhead
From Highway 40 at the Trans Canada Highway junction, travel southbound on Highway 40 for 22.0 km before turning right onto Mount Allan Drive into Kananaskis Village. Turn right into the Troll Falls parking area.
