Route Description for Three Isle Lake

The trail to Three Isle Lake is very manageable until the last few kilometres where you gain a final headwall to reach the lake. The first 9.0 km is a beautiful trail in the forest that passes by Forks campground and offers views of Upper Kananaskis Lake. As you gain elevation, you will encounter some rougher terrain that travels over some old rockfall. There are many junctions along the way that lead to scrambles and other trails, but all are well-signed and it is easy to stay on the main trail. Make your way up the headwall before reaching the incredible Three Isle Lake. This is a great place to overnight if you are up for it!

Getting to the Three Isle Lake Trailhead

From Canmore, make your way towards the Canmore Nordic Centre and continue onto Spray Lakes Road, where it turns to a gravel road. Follow this into Kananaskis Country and turn onto Kananaskis Lakes Trail. Stay on this until you reach the Upper Kananaskis Lake parking area. You will want to park at the far side of the lake, not the first parking area you see. You’ll go past Interlakes Campground and reach a u-turn area with parking.
