Route Description for Ocean Beach Hike
Seeking a seaside stroll near San Francisco? Well, this beautiful adventure along Ocean Beach boasts breathtaking scenery that will not disappoint. Meander along the accessible path, enjoying the scene of the crashing surf and craggy outcrops on one side and the colorful houses on the other. Note this route is a crowd favorite, so expect to share the route. We encourage hikers to head out in the morning or evening to enjoy the views of the vibrant skies and to avoid the crowds.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Ocean Beach Hike follows the curves of Point Lobos Avenue, passing the Cliff House and ultimately merging onto The Esplanade. Wandering south along the paved route about the beach, you will be granted impressive views of the Pacific and the bounding coastal cliffs. If time permits, head out to the beach and dip your toes in the chilly waters. You will likely notice intrepid swimmers, surfers, and sailors weathering the waters as you meander.
Continue hiking the length of the beach, and you will ultimately reach the trail’s end at the southernmost point of the seashore. From here, turnaround and retrace your footing back to the trailhead.
