Route Description for Boulder Lakes Loop
The alpine terrain is awaiting your exploration, and the Boulder Lakes Loop boasts the opportunity to do just that. Wander along snowmelt stream, past charming cascades through alpine meadowlands to the lakes situated in the middle of a sprawling basin. This adventure will get your heart rate up, so make sure you pack plenty of water to keep you hydrated along the way! Additionally, the exposed terrain at high elevations warrants dramatic weather, so dress in layers as insurance against changing conditions.
Setting out from the East Boulder Trailhead, the Boulder Lakes Loop follows the East Boulder Trail southwardly along the gurgling creek through mixed conifer forests adorned with granite outcrops. As you progress, the incline will intensify as you near Lower Boulder Lake. Admire the charm of the small pool before climbing the ridge into the basin abundant with alpine lakes bounded by lush meadows. Here you will confront an intersection, keep left, and at the following junction, take a right onto the PCT.
The PCT will guide you along the ridge above the basin, exposing dumbfounding mountain views. At the next trail split, keep right and reconnect with the East Boulder Trail, delivering you back to East Boulder Lake. From here, travel north, retracing your footsteps back to the trailhead.
