Lukens Lake Trail

The Lukens Lake Trail is a short and scenic adventure in Yosemite that makes for an epic spontaneous escape into the fresh air. Get out of the car and stretch your legs as you wander through meadows packed with wildflowers, and through old-growth pines to the picture-perfect lake.

Route Description for Lukens Lake Trail
Hikers of all skill levels and ages will enjoy the Lukens Lake Hike. This wonderful adventure provides a stimulating walk up to a beautifully scenic lake. The steep ascent at the beginning of the hike will be sure to get your heart rate up, before dipping back below the tree shade to casually wander to the lake. Note: the steep incline demands and a sturdy pair of footwear, but it is still manageable for most! The National Park also charges an entrance fee, check out the NPS website for more information.
Setting out from the Lukens Lake Trailhead, begin your ascent through the forest of old-growth pines and along a seasonal creek. Enjoy the shade from the looming trees as you summit the small mountain pass, which delivers wonderful views of the surrounding landscape. Rest and rehydrate before gradually descending into a meadow that is filled with an abundance of vibrant wildflowers in the summer months.
Soon the path will level out, guiding you to the shores of Lukens Lake. Revel in the shimmering waters that reflect the scenic view of the towering pines and dip your tired feet in the chilly waters. Have lunch along the shore and, when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
Getting to the Lukens Lake Trail Trailhead
The Lukens Lake Trail is accessed via the Lukens Trailhead off Tioga Pass Road.
