Take a bike ride through Catalonia to legendary Costa Brava
The Costa Brava is one of the most desirable destinations in Spain, and was one of National Geographic’s top destinations in 2012. This divine stretch of coastline is the star of the show on the Biking Costa Brava and Catalonia tour, where you’ll enjoy laidback bike rides to the hotspots of the Costa Brava and rural Catalonian countryside.
Between breaks on the idyllic sand, you’ll spend three days riding from Calella and three from L’Escala, giving you easy access to tons of the coast’s top spots. Bike through fragrant orchards, cruise along the same beaches that pirates used to loot (don’t worry, they haven’t been around in years), and become part of the convivial energy of quaint fishing villages like Cala s’Alguer. Visit Greco-Roman ruins at Empuries and fill up on tapas in Torroella de Montgrí. The Biking Costa Brava and Catalonia tour will offer some of the best bike rides and beachside days of your life, hands down!
Get ready to begin your bike adventure tomorrow with an information session held by tour representatives. You’ll get your GPS, maps, guidebooks, and any other information you need for your tour. You’ll also be fitted for a rental bike.
Once you’re all set, enjoy a walk around the pretty village of Calella, perhaps seeking out a local dessert or glass of wine.
Ready to hit the road? This tour gives you a short route and a long route most days, but either route will hit the same highlights. Today, you’ll head out on a loop on the El Carrilet trail. Your first stop is in Palamos, a bustling fishing village. Grab some catch of the day for lunch before continuing to the coves of La Fosca and Es Castell, both stunning spots.
Next up is Cala s’Alguer, a little fishing village where it feels like time stands still. You’ll complete your loop back in Calella
Ready for a blast from the (distant) past? Ride through the countryside of Baix Emporda, where medieval villages await. Stop in Peratallada and Pals, where you can find a tapas bar and a glass of wine alongside stellar architecture.
Continue through picture-perfect sunflower fields and olive groves before returning to Calella.
Saying goodbye to Calella, you’ll ride north through apple orchards and rice fields towards L’Escala. Stop in any of the cute villages that draw your eye, chatting with locals or grabbing a bite to eat. The ground is mostly flat, making for an easy ride.
Cruise through a couple of vineyards before reaching your destination for the night, a vibrant fishing village. The town centre of L’Escala is full of energy, so wander through here to find the perfect tapas bar for dinner.
The sea beckons today, so begin with a ride along the Emporda Coast. This area was attacked by pirates for many years, but thankfully it’s now less of a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean and more of an idyllic stretch of sand.
Cruise inland to see walled villages and fortresses (used to keep the pirates out, of course) before heading to the sea at the end of the day.
Depart L‘Escala this morning, riding along a well-kept bike path to the ruins of Empuries, the most important ruins in the area. Next, you’ll ride alongside the beach to Sant Pere Pescador. From here, you can choose to either return to L’Escala or keep riding through orchards to the Romanesque village of Castello d’Empuries.
However, you choose to spend the afternoon, make sure you soak up your last evening in the unbeatable Costa Brava.
While your official tour in Costa Brava is over, you’re welcome to book additional nights to enjoy this dreamy area a bit longer. Otherwise, you’ll find your way to the airport to depart.

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I was going through a tough time and really needed a getaway so I decided to book a tour through 10Adventures. My trip to Peru changed my life in so many positive and eye-opening ways. I am so thankful for the kind, empathetic team at 10Adventures.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

My wife Sarah and I had a great experience booking our 7-day cycling trip through Portugal via 10Adventures. The communication between us and Nadine leading up the trip was top-notch!

Communicating with 10Adventures feels like talking with a family-run business. I love to explore and travel, and exploring with the comfort of knowing I can talk to the team at 10Adventures with almost immediate feedback helps to ease any stress that comes with adventuring!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.

Wow! I am so happy with the experience I had with booking through 10Adventures for my tour in Italy! I worked with Nadine and she was super easy-going and helpful when it came to tweaking the itinerary provided on the website. 10/10 would book through 10Adventures again.
