Looking for a guided trek in Nepal that doesn’t get to high altitude? Then the guided Ghorepani and Poon Hill trek is for you. See for yourself why the Ghorepani and Poon Hill trekking route is among the most popular in Nepal.
The Poon Hill guided trek packs the maximum Himalaya experience into just a short time. Witness one of the most spectacular vistas on earth, panoramic views of the Annapurna mountain range, from several breathtaking angles.
You’ll get a unique perspective on these famous peaks as you ride a boat to the middle of a lake in Pokhara. Here, with the mountains reflecting gloriously in the still waters, you’ll watch the sun set behind the peaks. Trek through the amazing region and climb to Poon Hill before dawn to watch the Annapurna range change colors in the light of the sunrise.
Finally see these incredible mountains from above on a special flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. If you don’t want to leave Nepal without seeing Mount Everest, you can add an optional Everest flight during your stay in Kathmandu.
Along the way, you’ll spend time in Gurung villages, experiencing their fascinating culture firsthand. You’ll have opportunities to interact with the local people, sample their cuisine, and experience Himalayan village life. This Ghorepani and Poon Hill trekking tour is pure magic, so book your spot today!
Arrive in Nepal at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu. A representative from your tour will meet you and escort you to your hotel, where you’ll meet your guide and be briefed with more details about your tour. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali welcome dinner!
Begin your day with breakfast at your hotel, then take a guided sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley, exploring several landmarks of this vibrant city. First, visit the famous Buddhist temple Stupa Swayambunath, which is also called the Monkey Temple. You’ll get an inspiring view of the mountains and the surrounding Kathmandu Valley from the temple, which is high on a hill. Stupa Swayambhunath is the oldest and most mysterious shrine in Kathmandu, and it attracts tourists and Buddhist visitors from all over the world with its sparkling gold spire and distinctive white dome.
After this, drive to Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple on the Indian subcontinent, and the crematorium beside it. Finally, you’ll also tour Patan Durbar Square, where you can see historically significant temples and palaces from centuries past, each an excellent example of traditional Nepalese architecture.
As an optional extra today, you can also choose to take a flight to see Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.
Leave Kathmandu after breakfast and drive to western Nepal and the beautiful city of Pokhara. Enjoy the fresh air and astounding scenery as you surround yourself with some of the tallest mountains in the world. Spend the afternoon boating on Lake Phewa, where you’ll have a fantastic view of the Annapurna range and its snow-capped peaks reflected in the clear waters of the lake. This is arguably one of the most incredible panoramic mountain views on earth. Stay on the lake as the sun sets then have dinner in a famous lakeside restaurant. Spend the night in a hotel in Pokhara (850 m/2,789’).
Begin your trek today after a 1.5-hour drive from Pokhara to the trailhead at Nayapul. The massive Himalayan peaks will be hidden for most of the day, except for a few glimpses early in the trek. Your journey begins with easy walking on a dirt road that follows a lovely stream surrounded by green mountains. Pass through several local villages before coming to Tirkhedhunga, where you will spend the night.
Today is a strenuous day as you climb 3,300 stone steps and gain about 2,000 m (6,562 ft) in elevation. First cross the stream using a suspension bridge then climb the steep steps up to the Magar settlement of Ulleri. After this, the climb is gentler as you walk through meadows, rhododendron forests, and cultivated fields. Bird watchers will enjoy the variety of birds that call this area home, including redstarts, dippers, kingfishers, and forktails. Continue your trek until you reach Nangethanti and eventually Ghorepani. Spend the night in Ghorepani, where you can expect wonderful views of famous peaks such as Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri I, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Tarke Kang, and Hiuchuli.
Get an early start today for a short, 45-minute climb to Poon Hill where you can watch an incredible Himalayan sunrise. Before your eyes, the mountains of the Annapurna range seem to change color, from a soft pint to a glittering gold, in the light of the rising sun. There are only 14 peaks in the world that are taller than 8,000 m (26,247 ft), and 8 of them are in Nepal. On a clear day, you can see two of these peaks from Poon Hill. After enjoying this marvelous wonder, return to your lodge in Ghorepani for breakfast, then trek onward to Tadapani to spend the night.
Descend from Tadapani through a forest to a chorus of birdsong. The trail is a gentle descent for the first 45 minutes, but it then becomes very steep. Cross the terraced fields to reach the Kimrung Khola river, which you will cross via suspension bridge, then continue walking to Gurjung. Here the trail climbs again for about 45 minutes to bring you to Chhomrung (2,170 m / 7,119’). Spend the night in Chhomrung.
Trek today from Chhomrung to the Gurung settlement of Tolka. Here you will have a chance interact with local people and learn more about their traditions and culture.
Enjoy beautiful Himalayan scenery today as you descend from Tolka back to the city of Pokhara.
Return to Kathmandu by air, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular Himalayas from above. After your remarkable flight, the remainder of the day is free for sightseeing or shopping in Kathmandu. Explore on your own, or just relax in one of the city’s cozy cafes or rooftop restaurants. Spend the evening celebrating your accomplishments along the trek.
Sadly, your Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trekking Tour has come to an end. Depending on your flight time, you may have some time to explore before you head to the airport. Options include souvenir shopping or exploring more cultural sites around the city. When it’s time to leave, an airport representative will escort you to the airport and help with any final details. Have a wonderful trip!

I’ve been using 10Adventures route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10Adventures made that happen.

I’ve adventured around a lot of Canada and the US, but I’ve always wanted to explore other parts of the world. I felt a bit scared before booking my trip to Israel, but my conversations with the team at 10Adventures helped ease any worry. I can’t wait to explore more of the world!

Travel companies have had to go through a lot during the pandemic but 10Adventures were super flexible and accommodating nonetheless. I had to cancel my tour in France due to the pandemic. 10Adventures was great and let me reschedule for a later date!

My wife Sarah and I had a great experience booking our 7-day cycling trip through Portugal via 10Adventures. The communication between us and Nadine leading up the trip was top-notch!

Communicating with 10Adventures feels like talking with a family-run business. I love to explore and travel, and exploring with the comfort of knowing I can talk to the team at 10Adventures with almost immediate feedback helps to ease any stress that comes with adventuring!

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.

Wow! I am so happy with the experience I had with booking through 10Adventures for my tour in Italy! I worked with Nadine and she was super easy-going and helpful when it came to tweaking the itinerary provided on the website. 10/10 would book through 10Adventures again.
