Horseback Riding Adventure Through Patagonia Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Buenos Aires

The tour begins in Argentina's capital city, Buenos Aires, which oozes charm and sophistication. A driver will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel.

Be sure to make use of your night in Buenos Aires by strolling the streets, seeing its lively districts, and perhaps even finding some tango dancing in Dorrego Square.

Day 2 Overnight at Ranch in El Calafate

It's time to fly south to start your horseback riding journey! A driver will take you from the hotel to the airport for your flight to El Calafate.

In the afternoon, take a shuttle to the gorgeous Estancia Nibepo Aike ranch house, where your guide will explain the itinerary for the next few days. Don't miss out on the chance to watch the sheep-shearing demonstration at the ranch.

Day 3 Ride to Puesto La Rosada

The horseback riding begins today with a morning ride up the Cordon de los Cristales mountain range, enjoying incredible views below. The well-worn path winds down the valley, passing grazing cattle on the way.

You arrive at the Puesto La Rosada, where you meet the local puestero who oversees the cattle. Tonight, you stay at his refuge, looking out at dark skies filled with brilliant stars.

Day 4 Ride to Puesto Laguna 3 de Abril

After breakfast, you ride into the Valley of the Rio Cachorro that has views of Glacier Frias in the distance. At the Rio Cachorro outpost, you'll stop for a picnic lunch and then continue to the Laguna 3 de Abril, a habitat for flamingos, black-necked swans, geese, and ducks.

After arriving at the Puesto Laguna 3 de Abril, the group unsaddles for the night and eats dinner by the refuge's woodfire stove.

Day 5 Hike to the Hidden Glaciers

Today's excursion by boat and foot takes you to hidden glaciers that few tourists visit. Hike from the refuge to the lakeshore to catch the boat, which rides through Brazo Sur.

After the crossing, you hike to a viewpoint near Laguna de los Tempanos, looking down over the incredible sight of three massive glaciers and icebergs below. In the afternoon, return to Puesto Laguna 3 de Abril.

Day 6 Return to El Calafate

It's about an 18km ride today through the rolling hills of Nibepo Aike, leaving the refuge behind. You'll break for lunch at a local ranch where spit-roasted Patagonian lamb will be ready for your arrival.

After lunch, you take a shuttle service to El Calafate to arrive in the afternoon and check into your hotel.

Day 7 Day Trip to Perito Moreno Glacier

This morning you'll transfer along Lake Argentino before reaching the Magallanes Peninsula. Afterwards, you'll enter Los Glaciares National Park and approach the Perito Moreno Glacier, a huge glacier tongues coming from the continental ice field.

In the late afternoon, you'll continue by bus on the incredibly scenic Ruta 40 towards El Chalten, where you spend the night and rest up before the next day's hiking.

Day 8 Climb to the Foot of Mt. Fitz Roy

Today, you'll hike in the Los Glaciares National Park to the foot of one of its most striking peaks, Mt. Fitz Roy, with its dark granite needles reaching to the sky. At the Poincenot campsite, it's a one-hour steady climb to the foot of the peak, where you'll be rewarded with the spectacle of stone giants reflected in the Laguna de los Tres. Return the same way to get back to El Chaltén.

Day 9 Hiking Cerro Torre

It's about a three-hour hike to the Cerro Torre Mountain Range, following the valley of Rio Fitz Roy and crossing several rock sills along the way. Finally, you reach Lago Torre at the foot of Cerro Torre with a huge snow mushroom sitting atop the granite crag. Descend the way you came to return to El Chaltén for the night.
