Please don’t wait to voice your concerns until the trip is over, as it’s much harder to solve issues after the fact.

We invite you to join our spectacular Mount Meru Guided tour and experience the amazing climb to Tanzania’s second highest mountain (4,566 m). Located in Arusha National Park, it offers some of the most amazing scenery. It's also an opportunity to see the most diverse wildlife of all mountains in Tanzania. It is not an easy stroll due to the steepness of this mountain trek, but it’s a great chance to test yourself before challenging Mount Kilimanjaro. This wonderful Mt Meru guided trek is for those who want to take the challenge of a great climb while being out in the wild. We urge you to take this tour before you take on the Kilimanjaro mountain.

Itinerary for Mount Meru Trek
1
Day 1
Arrive in Tanzania
Accommodation - Panama Garden Resort | Distance - None | Meals - No Meals IncludedGet picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport near Arusha and taken you to your hotel in Moshi. Here you will meet the tour leader, who will tell you everything you need to know on your upcoming guided trekking tour up Mount Meru. Your guide will also make sure all your equipment is there. If you will need any more gear, you will be able to rent it in Moshi.

Day 2
Momella gate (1,500m) to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)
Accommodation - Miriakamba Hut | Distance - 6km, 1,000m, 4-5 hours | Meals - Breakfast, Lunch & DinnerStart your Mount Meru trek at 8 AM with a roughly 90-minute transfer to Momella gate, which is where you will start the trek. After you complete your registration, you will start the trek accompanied by an armed ranger. Today’s route will have some spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Momella Lakes. Along the way, you may spot animals like cape buffaloes, giraffes, bushbucks, warthogs, and other local species. You will soon come to Miriakamba Hut and spend the night here.

Day 3
Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) to Saddle Hut (3,500m)
Accommodation - Saddle Hut | Distance - 6.5km, 1,350m, 3-4 hours | Meals - Breakfast, Lunch & DinnerYour trek up Mount Meru will take you on a steep path which takes you to the saddle ridge today. You can expect amazing views of Meru Crate, the ash cone and little Meru while trekking today. There is also the chance to see wildlife while you are trekking through the forest today. You might even be lucky to spot buffaloes and the black and white Colobus monkeys. Eventually, you will make your way to Saddle hut - the accommodation for the night, where you’ll have a quick rest and then continue on to Little Meru (3,810m). This additional trek to Little Meru will assist in acclimatization, and afterward you’ll return back down to the Saddle Hut.

Day 4
Saddle Hut (3,500m) to Socialist Peak (4,562m) to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)
Accommodation - Miriakamba Hut | Distance - 19km, 1,200m, 10-12 hours | Meals - Breakfast, Lunch & DinnerToday is a tough, long day, but it is also the highlight of this trip. You will have to wake up just after midnight for a light meal and an ascent to the top of Mount Meru, known as Socialist Peak. This push to the top of Mount Meru is on a steep path and you will be hiking through rocky ridges and gravel. Enjoy unforgettable views of the Meru Crater and ash cone from the summit. You may also see some animals like Klipspringers and reedbucks today. After we spend some time to enjoy the pinnacle today's trek, descend back to the Miriakamba Hut and spend the night there.

Day 5
Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) to Momella gate (1,500m)
Accommodation - Panama Garden Resort | Distance - 14km, 4-5 hours | Meals - Breakfast, Lunch & DinnerAfter the tough day trekking to the top of Mount Meru, today is about descending back to Momella Gate. You will start your day with a hearty breakfast. After that, you will start your final hike to Momella Gate, using the southern route to descend. You will pass through a montane forest where you will be able to see the incredible Fig Tree Arch. You will be picked up from Momella Gate and taken back to your hotel in Moshi.

Departure
Accommodation - None, departure day | Distance - None | Meals - BreakfastToday it’s all up to you and what time your flight leaves. If you have time, you can explore the town of Moshi and find some souvenirs to commemorate your summit of Mount Meru. Consider sparing an hour of your time to help our environmental conservation efforts by planting a tree in the Kilimanjaro region.

How much should I tip?
Tips are optional, though the tips are a substantial portion of your crew members income. The total amount varies based on the number of crew members on your trip and your level of satisfaction with their service. Your group should plan on tipping in cash and the amounts should range between $80-$100 for the guide, $60-$80 for the Cook, $50-$70 for Assistant Guide and $30-$40 for porters. It is recommended to tip each crew member separately to ensure full transparency.
