Hiking along the Hermitage Park South Trail in Edmonton is an easy way to get outside. The centrally located park is connected to other parks via gravel and covered trails. You’ll pass the Pillar of Love memorial statue, picnic areas, boat launches, and a populated wildlife area.

Route Description for Hermitage Park South Trail
Beginning at the main parking lot for the Hermitage Park South Trail, walk southbound beyond the junction for the boat launch and water access. You will continue hiking south until reaching the covered trail and junction. Take a left here and continue on the path that follows the river in a northbound direction.
Pass the Pillar of Love memorial statue as you get closer to the trailhead. The statue stands to memorialize a natural disaster that took place in 1987. After the statue, you will reach the more popular picnic area before returning to the parking area and trailhead.
Getting to the Hermitage Park South Trail Trailhead
Hermitage Park South Trail is located on the far eastern end of the city. You can access this trailhead from the Yellowhead Highway or anywhere downtown. From the highway, take exit 397 to merge onto Victoria Trail N. Follow Victoria Trail N, turning right onto Hermitage Rd NW. Follow this road, turning right once you enter the park to find the southern parking lot.
