The Moose Lake Trail is a very short trail that is suitable for the whole family. It leaves from the popular Maligne Lake area and is the perfect add-on to other Maligne Lake adventures and sightseeing. Get on the trail and stretch your legs after a paddle on the water or a hike up Bald Hills.

Route Description for Moose Lake Hike

From the parking lot, head towards the public washrooms and find the trail behind the washrooms that leads towards the lake. You will see a dock and boat launch area that day-use paddlers will be using. Stay right hugging the shore, following signs for Moose Lake.

After 0.3 km of parallelling the shore, you will pass the Warden’s compound equipped with a cabin and dock. 0.2 km from the warden’s dock, you will come to a junction. Stay right following the Moose Lake sign. The trail to the left stays on the shoreline. 700 m from this junction you will reach Moose Lake. The trail wraps around the lake’s shore for 100 m before heading back into the woods for another 100 m before reaching a junction.

Stay right at this junction and hike for 1.0 km before you reach the Bald Hills trail on an old fire road. Take a right and finish the final 300 m to the parking lot along this road.

Getting to the Moose Lake Hike Trailhead

From the Town of Jasper, take Highway 16 eastbound towards Edmonton and turn onto Maligne Lake Road. Follow the winding road all the way to Maligne Lake. At the first parking lot, continue on following signs to the day hiking parking lot past the main boathouse and restaurant. Cross the bridge and continue on the road taking a left into the parking area.
