Explore backroads carved in the Peruvian Andes by mountain biking from Lake Titicaca to Machu Picchu
Swap a typical beach holiday for an intense, epic mountain biking adventure along the backroads of the intoxicating Peruvian Andes! Adventurous bikers will ride to some of the most incredible trail-accessible views in Peru on the Machu Picchu Mountain Bike Tour from Lake Titicaca. You’ll ride between 42 and 115 kilometres a day, making the staggering vistas and cultural staples even more magical.
On the 12-day Machu Picchu Mountain Bike Tour from Lake Titicaca, you’ll switch between camping in scenic, rugged spots, homestays, and cozy hotels, savouring locally-sourced meals prepared right onsite after your rides. Amid the quintessential Peruvian views, you’ll learn about Alpaca breeding and get up close and personal with these fascinating animals.
But that’s not all! Machu Picchu awaits. The UNESCO World Heritage site is a beloved attraction, and despite all of the photos you’ve likely seen of these Inca ruins, you won’t be able to stop your jaw from dropping as they emerge into view.
Book this unforgettable Peruvian mountain biking tour for a ride you won’t soon forget.
Meet and greet your guide at the airport in Juliaca before transferring to your hotel in Puno. You’ll get the day to get acclimated to the high elevation.
Spend the afternoon relaxing and meandering Puno, and feel free to check out some museums or the cathedral in the Plaza de Armas.
Enjoy a lovely, exciting day exploring the floating islands where the Uru peoples live. To get here, you’ll hop on a motorboat- enjoy the ride and the unique landscape.
After, you’ll boat to Llachon, where your accommodation for the night awaits. While preparing for your biking adventure, you’ll get the chance to catch a glimpse of local life. You’ll stay with local families as a part of a community-based project.
Today’s Peruvian mountain bike ride will help you ease into exercising in high elevation. Begin your journey from Lake Titicaca and ride until you reach Juliaca.
From here, you’ll travel along tarmac roads towards Lampa, where you’ll set up your tent and camp under the trees. Enjoy the incredible canopy of stars overhead!
Start on tarmac road until you reach Lampa, where you can explore the town and visit any local points of interest you’d like.
After admiring the church in the Plaza de Armas, you’ll get back on your bike and head towards the backroads. The gentle ascent winds to a quaint Andean community, Trapiche de Palca. You’ll spend the night camping near here.
Today’s ride may be the shortest, but it’s definitely not the easiest! Get ready for a montage of outstanding Peruvian views and natural wonders along the trail.
After you pass by the lake of Vila Vila, you’ll begin your ascent to the highest point of this biking adventure (4500m). Once you catch your breath, enjoy your descent to Cañon de Tinajani.
En route, you’ll travel by one of the largest forests of puya raimondii (a cactus that soars to 13 metres high). Get off your bike and admire the plants! To top it off, the Cañon de Tinajani will have you snapping endless photos—it’s stunning. Bask in the surrounding scenery as you camp nearby overnight.
Catch a reel of rural views on today’s relatively flat ride! You’ll pass by a couple of small villages—Humachiri and Llalli—before reaching Grupo Inca’s Alpaca breeding at Pacomarca. In the afternoon, you’ll learn about alpaca breeding and meet some furry friends!
Spend the evening relaxing in the hacienda.
Enjoy breakfast before starting your incredible day of Andean riding.
Expect a relatively flat ride with some small steep sections. Marvel at the scenery and local culture rolling by—rock formations, farm or two, local cyclists—until you reach Langui Lake.
Here, you’ll set up camp and enjoy the blissful scenery while you eat dinner.
Begin your day of adventure by cycling along the ever-so stunning Lake Langui, where the scenic shore will keep you entertained for around 35 kilometres.
Soon, the chilled-out morning ride will morph into a steep, challenging climb until you veer off to San Pedro. You’ll then cycle on a less-travelled dirt path downhill to Urubamba Valley, near the town of Rachi.
If time allows, you may even get a chance to visit some Inca ruins. Enjoy lunch here before continuing towards Sacred Valley for your overnight campsite!
Get ready for your longest day of cycling yet! Today, you’ll inch closer to one of the main highlights of this tour, Machu Picchu.
You’ll follow the Rio Urubamba, which will take you in the direction of the renowned World Heritage Site. En route, enjoy views that act as a precursor to Machu Picchu, such as Lake Huarcarpay, lunch next to an Inca gate, and, of course, Pisac—the goal of today’s journey!
You’ll get the chance to stay in a hotel tonight rather than a tent. Enjoy the amenities!
Congratulations, you’ve made it to your last day of cycling! Today, you’ll travel along a lesser-travelled path to the heart of the Incas along dirt roads before joining up with a tarmac road.
In the afternoon, you’ll catch a train to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where you’ll get to chill, reminisce, and relax for the night.

I’ve been using 10A route guides for a while, but had never booked a tour. My wife and I booked a self-guided hike in Greece and were so impressed with how we were able navigate the route without a guide with the detailed and easy to follow itinerary. We enjoy travelling independently, and 10A made that happen.

Whenever I’m looking for my next adventure 10Adventures never fails. Their routes all over England are my main go to for exploring and I have only had great experiences booking both guided and self-guided trips in Europe and South America with them. I am looking into Africa next.

I just got back from backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, and WOW. What an unreal journey! The alpine meadows, waterfalls, and the lakeside camping spot were memorable highlights! I wonder what other tours 10Adventures has to offer. That one went so well that I am now convinced I need to book another!

I'm not a big fan of traveling because of my fear of flying, but my girlfriend convinced me to go on the Aurora Borealis Tour in the Yukon. I will never forget the mesmerizing northern lights. Such a romantic (and cold) getaway. I would highly recommend it.
