Route Description for North Grove and Sunset Trail
Those seeking a short, easy-going outdoor adventure will appreciate the North Grove and Sunset Trail. Wander through a corridor of looming sequoias and marvel at the grandeur of the old-growth trees. Note this area was partially impacted by a wildfire, so you will notice burn scars on some of the conifers. This route is also one of the few that we encourage year-round exploration—just strap on a pair of snowshoes after heavy snowfall! Don’t forget the park charges an entrance fee of $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.
Setting out from the trailhead, the North Grove and Sunset Hike follows the North Grove Trail into the wilderness. Admire the enormity of the looming sequoias that adorn the forest and appreciate the beauty of the mixed conifers that bound them. This route will gently descend through the woodlands, eventually curving south, running parallel to a seasonal creek.
When you ultimately reach the path’s end, you will be diverted east on the Sunset Trail. Hiking through the forested corridor, you will soon be delivered back to the trailhead, marking the end of your scenic adventure.
