Strathcona is the oldest Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. Created in 1911, it covers over 250,000 hectares of wilderness, and spans nearly the entire width of Vancouver Island. THE TOP 10 HIKES IN STRATHCONA PROVINCIAL PARK, BC

#1. Flower Ridge (24.0km, 1460m, 7-10h): The Flower Ridge hike starts with an arduous climb up the first half of the route, leading to a stunning, flower studded alpine ridge with fantastic views into the south end of the park. The traverse of Flower Ridge is filled with views of the most striking peaks on the island, including a picture-perfect view of Nine Peaks across Cream Lake.

#2. Bedwell Lake (11.4km, 929m, 3-5h): Bedwell Lake is one of the best maintained hiking trails in the park. The hike up to Baby Bedwell and Bedwell Lakes is made easier by the highly engineered bridges, staircases and boardwalks. Additionally, the views of Big Interior Peak and Mt Tom Taylor amidst the stunning ambiance of the lakes is nothing short of fantastic.

#3. Mt Albert Edward (30.9km, 1635m, 9-12 h): The Mt Albert Edward hike is commonly seen from the Mt Washington ski hill. The dramatic sloping south ridge and sharp north point of Mt. Albert Edward has become an iconic part of island hiking, climbing, and skiing history. At the very edge of Forbidden Plateau, this enchanting summit can be hiked in a very long day, but don’t worry, the view from the top looking into the heart of Strathcona Park is well worth the climb!

#4. Lady Falls (1.0km, 33m, 1h): The hike to Lady Falls is a nice jaunt for families camping in the park. The stunning Lady Falls is nestled deep in the enchanted forest of the Cervus Creek Valley. Cascading water down 30m, the lush surroundings add to the beauty, yielding a magical feel to the air.

#5. Elk River Trail (24.0km, 666m, 6-8h): The hike out along the Elk River Trail to Landslide Lake is a classic day hike or weekend adventure. Remaining relatively level along a very well-maintained trail makes the trek out to see the stunning Mt. Colonel Foster all the easier.

#6. Mt Myra (22.5km, 1678m, 8-11h): Mt Myra is the second most famous hiking peak in Strathcona Park, typically completed after Mt. Albert Edward. Though at a lower elevation, Mt Myra is located more centrally in the park and the panoramic views of the Bedwell Lake area mountains and glaciers are nothing short of stunning.

#7. Mt Becher (11.7km, 648m, 6 – 8h): Mt Becher is a fantastic half day hike which grants unbelievable access to the alpine and yields amazing views over to the Comox Glacier and Mt. Albert Edward. The sloping dome of Mt. Becher is the easternmost peak in the park.

#8. Lake Helen MacKenzie (8.9km, 249m, 2-3h): Lake Helen MacKenzie hike is a quintessential jaunt through Paradise Meadows. The well-maintained path out to Lake Helen McKenzie comes fully equipped with board walks and wide gravel walkways. As you venture through old growth forests, the incredibly beautiful ambiance of the plateau fills your heart with delight and wonder.

#9. Upper Myra Falls (7.9km, 152m, 2-3h): Upper Myra Falls is a stunning hike through impressive old growth forest to a beautiful waterfall. The trail is very well maintained and is never too steep, perfect for the whole family.

#10. Augerpoint Beach (0.6km, 20m, 0.5-1h): The quick walk along Augerpoint Beach yields some of the best highway accessible views in the centre of the park. On sunny days the beach is also a perfect spot to relax, suntan, and swim.
