Route Description for Swiftcurrent Nature Trail

This popular hike in Glacier National Park at Swiftcurrent Nature Trail offers something that a lot of other trails don’t: a boat ride across Lake Josephine. While this boat ride is usually for the start of the hike to Grinnell Glacier, which is off the path of Swiftcurrent Nature Trail, it is a nice option to have if you decide to break away.

The hike begins at the Many Glacier Hotel and continues north. This trail does not have you hiking too deep into the wilderness and away from civilization, but this area is known for its abundant population of grizzly bears. At 1.3 km, you will reach the parking area for the Grinnell Glacier Trailhead, and you will turn left and continue to follow the loop trail. At 2.7 km, you will reach the boat dock and you should follow the Swiftcurrent Nature Trail path. Continue to follow the trail and it will lead you back where you began.
