Route Description for Chilnualna Falls Trail

The Chilnualna Falls Trail is a great option for your next adventure in Yosemite. More secluded than most waterfall adventures in the park, this trek boasts breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada Range, as well as the mesmerizing cascades. Though much of the trail is shaded by mixed pine forests, it is a good idea to pack plenty of water and to wear layers! We also suggest wearing a pair of sturdy shoes, as the terrain is uneven and steep in sections! Note: Yosemite National Park charges an entrance fee, refer to the NPS website for additional information.

Embark on your exciting adventure along the Chilnualna Falls Hike from the trailhead. Setting out from here, you will be guided up the Chilnualna Falls Trail to the Lower Chilnualna Falls. Admire the view of the charming cascades before you continue climbing. This path will guide you alongside the running waters of Chilnualna Creek as it weaves you between meadows and mixed pine forests. Soon, you will reach a scenic overlook of Wawona Valley, which is a great place to rest and rehydrate. Mind your footing here as you navigate a set of switchbacks, and let your anticipation of viewing the majestic cascades motivate you on your journey.

After ascending the winding terrain, you will be rewarded with a distant overlook of the Chilnualna Falls. Follow the path all the way to the base of the falls and revel in the grandeur of the cascades pouring over the granite, taking some time to hike up to the top of the falls if you still have the energy. Dip your tired feet in the pool atop the waterfall before you begin your descent. To get back to the trailhead, head back down the route the way you came.
