Route Description for Dog Dome and Dog Lake Hike
Explore Tuolumne Meadows along the Dog Dome and Dog Lake Hike. This epic excursion exhibits breathtaking vistas of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and the running lakes that intersect the granite peaks. Note: much of this trek is exposed, so check the forecast ahead of time and avoid this hike if there is an afternoon storm warning. Additionally, the Dog Dome can be extremely slippery after rainfall, so exercise caution and mind your footing. Though not necessary, a trail GPS can prove useful, as you will have to blaze your own trail up to the summit of Dog Dome. The National Park also charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional details. Setting out from the trailhead, the Dog Dome and Dog Lake Hike follows the Lembert Dome Trail over Tioga Pass Road and into the woodlands. Navigate the switchbacks up through the woodlands and past the Lembert Dome intersection. Follow the path north, before heading off the trail and up Dog Dome. If the terrain is slippery, simply make your way along its base. Revel in the sweeping panoramas and explore the small pond at the base of the granite outcrop. At the next intersection, turn right onto Dog Lake Trail. Follow this route up to the charming shores of Dog Lake and dip your toes in the chilly waters. When you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.Getting to the Dog Dome and Dog Lake Hike Trailhead
