Route Description for North Dome Trail

The North Dome Trail is an epic excursion that, in our opinion, provides some of the best scenery in Yosemite’s high country. Much of the path will be exposed as you wander along granite slabs, which will reveal awesome views, but can also bring extreme weather conditions, so make sure to prepare accordingly! Additionally, the terrain gets extremely slippery after rainfall, so exercise caution. Lastly, be sure to charge your camera because this picturesque adventure warrants countless photo opportunities. Note: the National Park charges a fee; refer to the NPS website for additional details.

Embark on your adventure along the North Dome Trail from the Porcupine Creek Trailhead. From here, track the North Dome Trail southwest through a mixed pine forest and over several alpine creeks. As you wander, you will confront a few intersections; ignore these and continue along the North Dome Trail. Soon you will pass the Indian Rock and Natural Arch—if time permits, take a detour and check these cool features out. From here, the path will descend more steeply towards North Dome. Take your time here and mind your footing on the exposed, vertiginous terrain.

Eventually, you will reach the summit of North Dome for some spectacular panoramic views. From here, Indian Rock, the famous Half Dome, Tenaya Canyon, and Yosemite Valley can all be seen. Revel in the awe-inspiring scenery and, when you are ready, head back the way you came to the trailhead.
