Route Description for The Howard Eaton Trail via the Wapiti Lake Trailhead
The Wapiti Lake Trailhead via the Howard Eaton Trail is a gorgeous route along the Yellowstone River. This trail does not have much shade, so wear a sunhat, sunscreen, and bring lots of water for everyone in your hiking party. Wildlife, including bears, are commonly seen along this route. Before heading out, ensure that everyone in your hiking party is familiar with bear safety protocols. At least one member of your hiking party should carry bear spray and know how to use it properly. With lovely views of the Yellowstone River and the Wyoming wilderness, this route is a great place to spend an afternoon exploring Yellowstone National Park. Beginning at the Wapiti Lake Trailhead, follow the Howard Eaton Trail south along the east bank of the Yellowstone River for 2.6mi to a divide. At this divide, turn around and follow the trail back to the Wapiti Lake Trailhead, where you began.
