Route Description for Woodland and Lake Creek Loop Hike
The Woodland and Lake Creek Loop offers a more tranquil experience than most hikes in the area, though afternoons do see an uptick in traffic. This impressively scenic adventure travels through an enchanting forest bisected by a beautiful creek and boasts wonderful views of Phelps Lake and the Teton Mountains. Indulge yourself in the beauty of the untouched wilderness but be mindful of wildlife and carry bear spray. Note the Grand Teton National Park charges an entrance fee; refer to the NPS website for additional information.
This lovely adventure begins at the LSR Preserve Parking Lot. From here, take the westbound trail to the Visitor’s Center, then merge onto the Lake Creek Trail, crossing a footbridge over the babbling stream. This route will gently climb, intersecting with the Moose-Wilson Road before redirecting northwardly. Traveling beneath the shade of the tree canopy, the path will ultimately open to a majestic overlook of Phelps Lake. Revel in the beauty of the glacial pool, then turn right, merging onto the Phelps Lake Loop Trail. Follow this route east before diverting south onto the Woodland Trail.
As the name suggests, the Woodland Trail explores the forest, offering sparse views of the Jackson Hole through the tree breaks. Eventually intersecting with the Moose-Wilson Road again, the path will deliver you back to the Visitor’s Center. From here, retrace your footing along the eastbound path back to the parking lot.
