What’s New in Åre in 2026

Getting to Åre is unusually easy for a mountain destination: it sits on the main railway line with its own station, and the nearest airports are close by, so a car is not essential. In summer the resort’s cable car and chairlifts run up Åreskutan, which lets you shorten the big summit day if you prefer. For the long mountain routes such as Helagstoppen and the Storulvån to Sylarna traverse, plan around the STF mountain stations and huts (Sylarna and Helags), which are staffed in the main summer season and should be booked ahead for overnight stays. Sweden’s right of public access, allemansrätten, also means you can wild camp along most of these trails as long as you follow leave-no-trace etiquette.
