Jones Peak Loop Trail
Table of contents
The Jones Peak Loop Trail is a moderate length hike in Angeles National Forest that features some rugged terrain and a good challenge for experienced hikers. While out on the trail, you will climb up the steep slopes of Jones Peak for some incredible Southern California view, before descending through a canyon on the return leg. Hikers should take note that most people choose to tackle this hike in a clockwise direction, as there is a very steep section of trail leading up to the peak that would be too difficult to descend.
Route Description for Jones Peak Loop Trail
For anyone who enjoys pushing their body to the limit for some beautifully scenic views, the Jones Peak Loop Trail will be a great Southern California route to explore. Setting out from the trailhead, you will follow the road north for a short distance, before branching off to the left onto the Mount Wilson Trail. From here, you will follow a winding path as it works uphill into the mountains to reach a junction. Taking the path on the left, you will traverse a series of switchbacks and navigate some very steep terrain on the way to the summit of Jones Peak, where you will experience sweeping views of the picturesque landscape and the city below. After taking in the views, continue on to the north and follow the path as it begins to descend the slope into the canyon. Here, you will keep right and follow the trail as it turns south, leading you through the canyon on the way back to the trailhead.Getting to the Jones Peak Loop Trail Trailhead
