Vasquez Rocks Trail
The Vasquez Rocks Trail is a beautifully scenic hike outside of Los Angeles that traverses an area characterized by intriguing eroded rock formations. While out on the trail, you will follow a short loop around the rocks and will have great sightlines across the surrounding Southern California landscape. Hikers should take note that this route is best utilized on weekdays when foot traffic is at its lowest volume.

Route Description for Vasquez Rocks Trail
Hiking the Vasquez Rocks Trail is an awesome experience in Southern California that will expose you to some interesting history and geology. In 1874, the area surrounding the Vasquez Rocks was used by Tiburcio Vásquez – a notorious bandido – to evade the law; today, the area mostly hosts hikers looking to take in the natural beauty of the eroded rock formations.
Setting out from the parking area, you will make your way along the road as it leads to the southeast, where you will quickly arrive at the Vasquez Rocks. Some people will be able to recognize the site as a filming location for popular films and shows, such as Star Trek.
Heading right at the fork in the path, you will begin a loop around the surrounding area that will provide a scenic view of the various rock formations. Eventually meeting up with a section of the Pacific Crest Trail, you will turn left and follow the trail to the north in order to complete the loop and arrive back at the starting point of your hike.
Getting to the Vasquez Rocks Trail Trailhead
The starting point for the Vasquez Rocks Trail can be found just off Escondido Canyon Road in Agua Dulce.
