Metrosafe LS120 Anti-Theft Hip Pack: The Verdict

This well-priced waist bag is a go-to when heading out for a short jaunt. We tested it around town and in the mountains, and like that you can fit a 500ml or 1L hydration pack, as well as wallet keys, a snack, phone and lightweight accessories. If you want to keep the weight of your belongings around your waist rather than on your shoulders for short hikes, we recommend the Metrosafe LS120 Anti-Theft Hip Pack. It’s comfortable and built to be secure.

Overview of Metrosafe LS120 Anti-Theft Hip Pack

A hip pack that keeps your gear organized and secure and sits comfortably off your back and on your hips. With several anti-theft features, walk, hike, or bike without worrying about your stuff! While we didn’t try it, we will use this for XC skiing this winter, and could even see using it on the ski hill!

    When to use

If you’re heading out and don’t need to take much with you, the Metrosafe Hip Pack is a great option. This hip pack works well for virtually any activity. We’ve used it for city walks, short hikes, bike rides and cycling commutes. We can see using it for skiing and snowshoeing in winter.

While we like it for the outdoors, if you’re travelling to a country with a warm climate, some might prefer this hip pack in place of a backpack, especially if you’re prone to a sweaty back! And, if you travel with the Metrosafe LS120 Anti-theft Hip Pack, rest assured your belongings are safe and protected.

    Weight + size

When you don’t need to take much with you, you don’t want a heavy pack to lug around. Good news: the Metrosafe LS120 Anti-theft Hip Pack will not add much weight to what you need to carry. It weighs 10 oz / 0.29 kg and has 2L of volume. The hip belt adjusts in size from 32.5 to 42.7 in / 82.6 to 108.5 cm. If you need a little extra length, Pacsafe offers a Strap Extender.

    Pros

Fits hydration packs. If you’re taking this waist pack on a hike, don’t worry about water. The pack fits both 500mL and 1L bladders.

Adjustable strap length. Keep your waist pack secure to your body by adjusting the straps to fit you snugly. It adjusts from 32.5–42.7 in / 82.6–108.5 cm.

Space + organization. Wear this waist pack on your commute or ride to the beach and find space inside for your 7” tablet or a book. There are many compartments in the pack to keep your stuff organized.

Anti-theft protection. Even though you may be in motion while using this waist pack, rest assured that your belongings are secure thanks to this pack’s anti-theft features.

    Cons

Too small for long hikes. This waist pack is best worn when you don’t have to worry about packing extra gear, and all you need is some water, wallet, snacks and keys.

Optional Strap Extender has less anti-theft protection. This waist pack may not be large enough for everyone, but Pacsafe offers a Strap Extender. Just be aware that the strap extender does not have the eXomesh® embedded security wire, but it does have the Carrysafe® slash guard.

    Keep your belongings safe

The last thing you want to worry about is losing your essentials—or worse, having them stolen. We were happy with the security features of this hip pack. None of the features make it too bulky or heavy. Your wallet and keys will be safe inside lockable zippers and cut-resistant materials. The hip strap has integrated security to prevent any slash and grab scenarios. And no one will be able to scan your passport or credit cards thanks to the RFID blocking pocket.

    Organize your essentials

When you open the main compartment in the bag, you’ll see several specific pockets for your essentials. It’s super easy to keep things organized. As we mentioned, this hip pack is nice for short hikes but also short trips around town. On a hike, you can fit your hydration pack of up to 1L inside; and around town, you can slide a 7” tablet in its padded pocket. Or keep a journal and pen inside to take notes on the road. Keep your keys and wallet secure with the internal attachment points. The Metrosafe LS120 Anti-theft Hip Pack has space for all your essentials, and we’re always happy when products like this are designed with organization in mind.

    Great on-the-go hip pack

This pack is simple to grab and go. It’s small and light enough that you’ll barely notice it’s on. We haven’t taken this pack on a trip, but we imagine it would be great to have when exploring a new city on foot. The anti-theft features are reassuring when you’re wandering unfamiliar places, and the hip pack is typically accepted in museums when backpacks need to be checked in.

Should you buy the Metrosafe LS120 Anti-Theft Hip Pack?

Bring hip packs back in style! We recommend the Metrosafe LS120 hip pack for short outings like hiking or around town walking, biking, or commuting when you don’t need to carry much with you, want to keep weight on your hips instead of you back. It’s especially useful when you want to keep your belongings safe and secure and on you at all times.
